I've not played a match with just 1 DC... but I have played a match with 2 DC's and no fullbacks at all.
You're better off having 2 DC's and having the ML and MR track back to cover the wings.
If you're playing against an opponent with 5 midfields, you definitely need to 2 DC's (unless your 1 DC is Virgil van Dijk).
I used to play with 1 DC and a DMC with LD and RD , it worked ok. I used the extra man as an AMC
I often play with 3 man backline DR DC DL and a DMC it works well.
I won a treble in the old times when we had DMR-DML positions, with 1 DC-DML-DMC-DMC-DMR and If I remember well x2 MCs and AML.AMC-AMR
no you're not allowed to play a game with only one defender (any position) because the formation has the red exclamation point on it
Lol. And be ready for a red card your DC could have no excuse about it. :D
