No, you wait till next round and then bid as late as you dare.

So for example A and B go to round one;
Round 1 - A bids early, B bids late -> B will be the winning bid next round
Round 2 - A waits and waits till the 'last second' and bids, B has no time to react and A wins

However if B bids on round 2 also, the bids will go to round 3. My general tactic is to bid early and then wait to see if the other person is one of the late bidders, if he is, next round I will wait and bid very late if he doens't bid and expects to win with the previous rounds bid.

but still, i think its better to bid early. as dv8r said "bid early, be happy"

I've rarely seen that B had no time to react. If B really wants the player he places a bid in the last seconds too, no difference if A bids on the last second or at the beginning of the round.

However there's not really proof for that, it could be that B stopped bidding on purpose.
