Buying Players?

I've seen people buy players despite having already a maxed out squad list, but then the bought player does not show on their squad list.

So did they just lose a bunch of tokens and the player or do they actually get the player at some point?

They got the player but he is yet not signed. They have one week to clear one spot in their squad so they can sign this player.

It's like getting a youth player.
