I would guess your formation. I was in a game where I was using a 3-2-1-3-1 and getting killed for possession. Switching formation to a 4-1-2-2-1 changed the momentum of the game immediately.

If you don't have any player on either wing, it is considered an illegal formation and you are penalised with only 20% possession. Having a ML or DL will solve the problem

Hey if you want a good possesion you need to cover both flanks left and right as well.
