I used 4-5-1V and my opponent use 4-4-2 but hold on, look at his formation first > DL DC DC DR MC MC MC MR ST ST. So no midfield at left side. My team should win in the midfield cause I have 5 and he has only 4! But I lost 1-3 and yes, I played at home. Why ?

This formation kinda unpredictable
there is no sure win formation. even against illegal formation .
he got no illegal formation
he attaked on the right side maybe
and maybe his players was more motivated
maybe he got the better players
there are a lot of points why he can win
and also morale ,condition,win bonus
When you come up against laterally asymmetric formations, you must attack down his weaker side. If you don't, and if he is strong in other areas, you are likely to draw blanks.

But the only thing that made me curious is that whether his formation is legal or not. So if you guys said that it's not an illegal formation so I accept my lose without any doubt.
