theres no such thing as a best formation that you wont have to change. basically every formation has its own weakness and there is a counter formation. i personally adjust my formation according to the team im playing against.

but if ur saying a good formation, i will use 4-4-2 flat or 4-5-1 v shape or 3-5-2 v shape. imo these are more balanced and by adjusting the arrows you can combat a lot of formations, but they do have their own lethal weaknesses.

Yes I have problems with my formation for three seasons.I'm fun of 3-5-2 but it has many weaknesses.I conceded most of the goals from counters and long shoots

    I currently use 3-2-2-2-1

    with

    mentality attacking
    focus passing down both
    pressing whole pitch
    tackling normal
    passing mixed
    marking zonal

with no arrows and counter but I don't if it's good to use offside trap

I never use attacking mentality and counter attack together

Try 4-5-1 flat with red arrow on Striker, defensive mentality, mixed or down both flanks passing depends on whether your opponent has fullbacks or not (if they have none then down both flanks with red arrow on your wingers or just switch to 4-3N-2W-1), long passing style, man-on-man marking.

Force counter on/off after 20 minutes depends on the current match stats, if you are having as many shots as your opponent then no need to force counter. If less shots, force counter on

if there would be a winning formation then most player would play it just to win
i would prefer a strong formation that is often played like 4-5-1 V or 4-4-2 classic. Maybe then you get best chances.
But i dont really understand why someone plays a manager if he wanna do nothing for it
