Cup game I'll go with 4132 instead of 4312. You can win the midfield battle with a dmc to clean up anything that gets through whilst he doesn't have a dmc for that safety. If you have an amc, it will just be nullified by his mid dc. When he plays with such a defensive formation, take advantage of his lack of numbers upfront rather than put more attackers to contest with his defenders.

CL game. Yeah, mirror him if you can and have a higher Q.

I'm going to try 4132 as you suggested for away game and then I will see what to do for home game depending on the score.
I have good strikers, let's hope that they manage to score some goals hehe
Only concern is that I can't put into play any of my free kick specialists with this center formation...

Oh. I dunno. I am not a fan of changing formation if it means playing your weaker players.

If anything, yeah, 3 at the back seems better against 532 since he has no amc nor wingers but I wouldn't put just 2 mc. You are giving him the midfield. Maybe 3132W1? Still think you should play your best players to fit a relatively good formation rather than shoehorn your players into a formation.
