DML = ML(down) / DL (up)?

Im cutrently missing a DML for a butterfly formation to counter a 4-5-1V. My team is rather tight so i dont really wanna kick anyone out.
So the question then is, Will ML (down) or DL (up) work the same as a DML?

depends. when you defend your red dl is attacking, when you defend your blue ml is defending. clear.

i see, so i need it to behave like a DMR for defence mainly, so can we say DML at defence = ML (Down)?

if you want to keep the score and go for a draw i say red dl, if you wanna push more and win try with blue ml

Although I'm 4.5 points higher than him on average, I drew 1-1 using 4-3N-3 this morning (also could be due to a friendly match 5 hours before start while I was sleeping). Will give the "altered (ML Blue)" butterfly a try.

Just put you DL in the DML spot, nothing will happen If ou put a player out of position.
Same play bad, other play good, give it a try in a friendly match.
Arrows do not work tha way, it is only a matter of mentality a DL with red arrows will not play as DML, he will only atack more times, while defending he will be in DL spot.

a player out of position sucks. this is worst that can be. but, if you are short of him, for example DML, it is better to try with red dl, then put dl on his position. i tried. what sucks is the fact that you dont play in "normal" formation, that sucks. lets imagine you wanna play 3N-2dml/dmr-3N-2. when you miss your dml, and play with red dl, you do not play 3-2-3-2 but DL N N N - DMR - 3N -2. this is what is not good.

he's 5 points lower than me in general. 4-4-2 seems more promising than butterfly now?

Anyone with experience? any arrows? attacking both flanks/middle?

About arrows... I agree with Dman2pt, so if I don't have a guy for a role, I use one *in the same color* OOP to fill it.. thus: if no ML, an MC, no DML? any left footed M, with pref. to DMC or ML. If you play them only one spot OOP within their zone they usually do ok to good in my experience.
