I used hard defensive, through middle, whole pitch, short pass, normal tackle, counter yes, I think those are really powerfull if you face a stronger opponents. For similar Q just switch to normal/attacking, own pitch, and counter = optional.
Another tips, if you're going through the middle you need a strong MC's, at least 1..
