why should we try to "counter" other player formation and not just put our team players in a formation which we like to play ?
the whole point of countering a formation is to maximise your winning chance. If you let opponents counter your formation, you are putting yourself at a disadvantages.
IRL, lots of teams play with only 1 main formation and do not counter opponents formation, so in game it's entirely up to you.

For example, you are comfortable playing 3-5-2, your opponent is comfortable playing 4-5-1v.
By not switching to a formation with DLDR, you've been countered by your opponent and he didn't even have to do anything, just playing his usual formation and exposing your 2 flanks
