Hi guys -

I'm coming up against a really defensive (as it seems) formation.

Any ideas? if he plays his tactics right i could underestimate him - i.e. It looks defensive but if he pushes his DL/DR up to effectively become DML/DMR on attack - and - red arrows his DML/DMR they would effectively become ML/MR... yeah?

I'm not sure how to attack him. His wings obviously look strong so centrally - so i was thinking 3 strikers.. But his DL/DR can also play DC. So if he watches the match he can just nullify me there.

What do you think?

Yea that's really defensive, I'd say either 3-1-3-3

Attacking, Through the middle, mixed pass

or 4-4-2 Narrow Diamond

Attacking, through the middle, short pass. Red Arrow on the AMC.
If you can't score with this, take out your AMC for a third ST, so it becomes a 4-1-2-3

Forget his wings,his DML/DMR and DL/DR will fully cover them, try to break through his DMC and the lonely DC
If you think he plays counter, change from attacking to normal.

The game is in 4 hours - i just want to check with some of your reasoning -
I've had a better look at his line-up and it's extremely versatile. I watched his match last night (4-0 W) vs a 4-4-2 and he can completely alter it.

His DL/DR & DMC can play DC. So he can make a back 3 while watching.
His DML can play DL & DMC - his DMR can play DMC - so if he wanted he could drop to a DL-DC-DC-DR & DMC-DMC or DL-DC-DR-DMC-DMC-DMC.

His AMC is also an AML - and he has another AMC/AMR and AML/AMC on the bench. So he could switch to a 4-5-1V very easily.
As I see it - he has

Would my MC & DMC pair not be outmatched by my opponents 2 MC & DMC - also with DL & DML + DR & DMR would that not make my ML & MR redundant?

Also it's not a good formation vs a 4-5-1v

The second formation might be better - But it's also weak against a 4-5-1V.

Well of course if he changes there is no "the one counter" , you also have to adapt to it
As far as I see, all his formations are pretty defensive, except for 4-5-1 V, so you have to break through his defense since he is covering both his wings and the centre.
You could also try a formation with 2 AMC's
