    How to counter 4-2-3-1 formation

Just finished CL game against a 4-2-3-1 formation (GK; DL-DC-DC-DR; MC-MC; AML-AMC-AMR; ST) Won 6:0 (away)! He had no misplaced players and my team was slightly better (his team strength 156; my team 156,5).
I build up my team as following: 4-4-2 classic (GK; DL-DC-DC-DR; ML-MC-MC-MR; ST-ST)
Orders: Normal mentality; Attacking both flanks; Pressure own half; Normal entries; Short passes; Counter yes
Arrows: 1st half (winning 1:0) Red arrows on DL/DR; ML/MR and on 1 ST; Blue arrows on 1 MC and 1 ST; 2nd half took away red arrows on DL/DR

Are you saying you lost or you won?

Regardless, 4-4-2 should be able to counter 4-2-3-1 so you shouldn't need to change your formation. You should also keep the red arrows on your DL & DR to close down the opponent's AMR & AML.

If you really need a formation besides 4-4-2 then I'd use a 4-1(DMC)-1-3(W)-1.

    -------ST--------
    -AML-AMC-AMR-
    -------MC--------
    ------DMC-------
    -DL--DC-DC--DR-
    -------GK--------

    That formation can be beaten by 4-1-4-1 , 3-1-5-1 , 4-5-1 Flat , too
