Is 4-1(mc)-4-1 a viable formation? What tactics do you suggest for it?

    Hey,

I'm relatively new to the game, entering my second season now. I did well last season with a number of different formations (I won a cup and finished 3rd). However, I read it's not healthy to keep changing formation, so I wanted to stick to one formation for most games. My best players would make a decent 4-1(mc)-4-1. Do you think it's balanced, or will it be too offensive?

What tactics do you suggest for it?

This is the formation if I didn't make it clear..

    GK
    DL DC DC DR

    MC
    AML AMC AMC AMR
    ST

    Thanks!

I don't know what hat the experts say and it of course depends on the opponent, but I would experiment with offensive, short mixed passing and high pressure or defensive, low pressure, long passing and counterattack.

Thanks for your reply, I'll try the attacking mentality

hmmm ... a disturbance in the Force I sense.

Why don't you use a second MC instead of an AMC.

It seems unbalanced and might really struggle against some teams.

If those are your best quality players I would try: Red arrows on DR, DL, AMCx2, blue arrow MC. Hard attacking, short, through the middle, offsides on (unless your DCs are below ~65% speed, if so, you can try adding red arrows to them, too; if that still gives up counter-attacks, then no offside trap. Full pressing, medium tackle, zonal, no counter attack. If you can't maintain near 70% possession, it's not working well, switch to man-man and try a while longer.
