Help me analyze this match: 4-5-1 V-Style against a "Dandelion" 3n-1-3w-1-2 formation

Hi Guys, I am up against an opponent who kicked my ass with this formation:

Opponent's Formation (3n-1-3w-1-2)

In response I deployed a 4-5-1 V Formation with defensive long counters down the flanks and hard tackling, with bonus emphasis on defending.

We had exactly equal quality in our starting lineups and he was the home team. I got completely destroyed.

He beat me 19-10 on shots, despite the fact that I had 2v1 advantage on his flanks and ordered one of my Fullbacks to help in the attack. Also despite the fact that I was 2v1 on both flanks, he beat me 10-6 on corners and both of his wingers had 8+ scores. In the first half he scored on 2 free kicks despite not having any free kick specialist and scored a 3rd on a corner kick. Later on he scored 2 more but that was because I was forced into attack mode and was vulnerable. I believe throughout the game he was also doing lots of counterattacks like me. Score ended 2-5.

I can't understand at all what went wrong. Would anybody like to take a stab at it and maybe suggest a solution? I can provide as much info as necessary.

What orders did you use? and did you have any arrows on any players (if yes, then please write it down here).
I've faced such opponents in past and it's easy to handle the formation with 451v. You just have to play with few orders and arrows.

I always remove arrows if opponent is using AMC. However when using AML and AMR, you have to be sure that they are beasts in their position.

When you're attacking, use red arrows for DL/DR & DMC

Team Mentality - Attacking
Focus Passing - Down both flanks
Pressing Style - Low
Tackling Style - Normal
Passing Style - Mixed
Zonal Marking with no counter and no offside trap.

When playing Normal Mentallity swith the counter ON.

This always works for me

It's like he use through the middle and short pass. All straight midfielder. Maybe.

Ranjangaur, Yes my DR had attack arrow. No other arrows. Was that a mistake? And are you suggesting I should avoid being defensive?

I deployed defensive with long passes and forced counterattacks, and hard tackling. Also my AML/AMR are 7 and 6 star with very high stats .

also, by complete accident I found a counter strategy even though I don't understand it. My opponent (using the 3n-1-3w-1-2) went up against a team with a somewhat similar central spine (4-1-3w-1-1) and lost. So I attempted the same formation, using the following tactics:

- Hard Defending
- Normal Tackling
- Short Mixed Passing with Counterattacks ON (I know, weird right? But the stats of the team that beat him indicated that was what he was doing so I copied it)
- No press or offside trap

The results were very positive. I ended up in a CL 2-leg matchup with the guy who keeps beating me and got 2-1 and 2-2 result (and in the 2-2 my team was not in good condition and it was an away match.)

Someone should update the table of counter formations...this guy never lost at all before this, and then against this formation he couldn't get a single win in 3 matches.

in real football, the good long pass for a successful counter attack, is a low height pass.
- High balls always give an advantage to the defending player as he can take a good position with his body, without loosing the eye-contact with the ball.
The body and the head of the attacker have a different position as he must look back and high.
- The defender just had to throw away the ball with his head which is in a higher place than the body or the feet of the attacker (he must use those for controlling the long high pass).

So this short (in height) pass, must go through 3 or 4 lines.
It's like throwing a small ball or stone through the holes of 2,3 or 4 fences.

451v is always my fav formation and bring me lot of success. bt this season it seems different my 451v is struggling to beat my oppo with formation i normally have no problem to play against. etc against 442 classic. my best player aml a beast for the last 2 season cannot replicate his form and out of touch same as my amr. do anyone having the same problem with aml/amr this season? or attacking from flank is not effective as it use to be i dont know.
