Most formation with 6 MF players should equal out the possession and indifference in quality.
I'd use the butterfly.
--------DC---↓DC↓---DC
DML---------------------DMR
--------MC---------MC
AML---------------------AML
--------------ST
You shouldn't need more than two DC's to look after his striker so the centre DC can push up to give you more support in the centre.
Orders are tricky as the V is very flexible but so is the butterfly so it is up to you should be a good match.
They say when your opponent is much better to use hard tackling, I don't know the outcome as I've never used it myself, I guess the advantage is you may cripple a few of his stars but on the downside you may suffer red cards.
Your AM'S will split his back four leaving your ST one v one with his other DC, his other DL or DR will be to busy doubling up with his DCM on your other AM player.
Check each of his players form in the cup, though he has a strong team some may be off form, target this weakness and play good form players against them, even if they are a star less.
