there is no better formation it depends on the rival and many other factors.
but if i have to choose...
use the left one 4-5-1V
normal
flanks
half pitch
normal tackle
short/mixed pass
zonal
red arrows on DL DR DMC
GL HF

Flanks is both flanks correct.
and half pitch is Own Half yes.

About counterattack, you can use counter attack only if u change the mentality to defensive and to long pass, keep the red arrows on DL/R and DMC no matter what.

Own half means the defenders will not cross the half line of the pitch its good for all mentalities and if you want some players to go up u add red arrows, in your case you attack flanks so you will give the DL/R red arrows and the DMC will simply counter and rival AMC and will be like a 3rd MC when your team attacks(you will noticed many counter attacks by your team cause of rivals ball lose)
Never add red arrow on ST or Wingers for its useless and have no effect what so ever just tier the players faster, red arrows on AMC are a blessing in disguise :)
If we look past formation, full pitch will come with offside trap most of the time and allways Zonal marking(ManonMan is to defensive)
that means your team will pass the half line so red arrows on defenders is a mistake unless your team is rly strong!

you cant add me unless we are in the same server and the odds for that are zero.
What you did is perfect, i advice you to start with short passes and only if you need tweak it to mixed.
About the red arrow on AMC.
i mean you can put red arrows on AMC but not on ST AML AMR on AMC yes.
You do not have AMC so it does not matter, it was just so you know if yu ever do use a AMC

Decide what? if to do long pass or short?! not good at starters when u need to secure your game momentum u need to control possession as much as you can.
things ppl dont consider in the game and after halftime are many
*see the comments, if a player miss to much or lose balls to much sub him.
*after half time players are more tier, controlled tactics and slightly longer passes can sometimes overcome possession
and many more elements.
just remember not to red arrow ST or AML/R you will get them tier faster and nothing ells.
**you can use red arrows on the 2 MC after half time to boost and then take it off...tweak it, after few games you will learn.
if you want upload your rooster maybe there are far better tactics for you.
about all the elements of the game. you can read many good manuals players issued here in the forum, and you can ask me or others if you do not understand something.
just so you know it is not exact math, no wonder formation or super tactics just tweaking and adjusting.

I allready answered you about the mixed issue, do what feels right to you.
if we let aside health so quality and form(score they get in games) do a mix
and no the foot makes no difference neither is the captain.

mixed if you see your possession is very high or very low - shocks in tactics change the game, you can tweak sometimes from zonal to MantoMan with no solid explanation it gane me times to times possession larger then stronger op
rooster=your team(with quality+role)

* if you come VS a rival with DML/R dont use wingers just go 4-4-2 4-4-1-1 whole pitch (remember offside trap)
P.s. if you have more questions and im sure u do, it will be more easy if you gather a list in an orderly fashion and not half questions.
One more thing.

OR 2ST insted of AMC depends if you want to attack Mid or flanks and more...

u can go 451v yes but 4-1dmc-ml mc mr -2st can be a good solution as well 4-1-4-1 flat is good allso
4-1-4-1 red arrows on dmc and ml mr normal flanks half short zonal
