this is my way to beat 442 always:) good luck
Won against my main competition that plays 4-4-2 today, used the narrow diamond. 5-0. Almost same level of quality.
ppl are talking about formation as if it is so important,.... i think 65 % of result is squad quality,.. and 25% is luck and may be 5% for formation assuming u dont play with a crab formation,..... assuming condition and morale etc ,.. are the same
Hello everyone .. i have a game tonight .. after 4 hours .. my AMC is injured, so i cannot use the normal narrow diamond 4-1-2-1-2
so i thought of a 4-1-3-2 to counter a team with 4-4-2 formation, same quality
here is what i made
Will it work ? thanks in advance

as you might've noticed ... i have a 4 stars AML .. but this doesn't make sense if i am going to focus on mid ...
Oh.. and it's an away game
ok .. seems that no one will reply on time .. so anyway, am gonna go for the same formation and change only the mentality to normal incase i get a negative result..... depends on the outcome ... anyway will report my experience after the match ..
I just played a slightly better 4-4-2 team using the same. I won 3-2 (1st leg) but thinking of switching to a defensive formation for the away game, would 5-3-2 work?
about the 5-3-2 .. am against playing with 5 defenders .. but that's just me ... i would go for a 3-2-2-2-1 butterfly
i played my game with 4-1-3-2 as shown before .. had double the shots on target .. won 0-1 though ... he had a nearly empty stadium and didnt watch the match .. so i had 7% bonus possession ...
i think my tactic wasn't good enough .. or i wasn't that lucky in that match .. anyway am gonna try a different tactic next time .. Suggestions anyone ?

4-4-2 vs 4-1-2-1-2.
28.5 vs 30.8
3-0 after first halp.
f!@k this game... never lose last season, now using counter formation and have best team in league i'm loosing all time >.>
I think the same but I think there is matter what arrows and what mentality u use?
Explain us your way to beat him?
Sometimes I dont use any arrows and playing attacking with counter-attacks.Sometimes I use red arrows on DL/DR/AML/AMR without counter-attacks.What is your way?
ok .. this is strange .. i read a post here suggesting a 4-4-2 classic as a counter to 4-5-1 V-Style ..
and here am reading the exact opposite .. hmmm..
i have a game against a motivated 4-5-1 V-Style (red arrows on DL,DR,AML and AMR) i believe.. my opponent is 10 quality points higher on overall average than my team .. am at 4-5 stars team and he's at 6-7 stars .. he has 44 goals in 17 league matches so far, so i guess his 4-5-1 V-Style isn't the counter attacking one, but a a motivated one . .. .
so any suggestions on how to beat him ?
Paper beats rock. But maybe he'll change to scissors at half-time?
There is no guaranteed counter-formation, only certain formations that give advantages and disadvantages compared to other formations. 4-5-1 is a formation with a lot of advantages, but it can be beaten so don't just stick your players in position and assume that you're going to win.
Well guys i playing quarter-final cl against the second best team in quality(mine is 1st). Ultil 4 days ago i used 4-1-3-2 but he is using 4-4-2 flat. So i started rebuilding my team and bought aml-amr and a second 5 star mc turning my formatio into 4-5-1V 2 days ago...My match is today and i hope all these changes wont be for nothing :P
sometime this game engine is really suck...I'm currently at level 8 but from season 1 till level 6 I was changing my formation before each match and nothing I managed to win and was knocked out of the champions league and cup in the early stages. At the beginning of the season 7 I change my tactic and started to play with 4-5-1 V style(with red arrows on DL and DR and blue on DMC)and has not lost any match in the league, won the Champions League for the first time and conceded only 2 goals in CL and 10 in the league all season. Now,in the middle of the season 8 when I reached CL 1/4 and Cup 1/8 (and also I'm first in my league) something strange happened...I lost 5 games in a row (2 in CL,1 in Cup and 2 in the league) and there was no difference whether I played the match at home or away, and whether it was a weaker opponent, or at the same level as me...therefore, I have a question for the more experienced players..is it the fault of the game or my formation suddenly stopped working?
Hi guys!
This is an active thread, with good answers!
What about a 4-4-2, where the ML is switched out with AML?
---GK---
-DL-DC-DC-DR-
-ML-MC-MC----
-------------AML-
---ST---ST----
Have had some success with 4-1-2-1-2 ND against 4-4-2.
Which tactics/formation/orders would you recommend against this flanking formation?
Considering defensive, through the middle and counter..
No doubt he will focus on left flank.
Any advice ? Sadly I have no DML.
Cheers!
I played, and won 2-1 at home!
I ended up playing a 4-1-2-1-2 Narrow Diamond, defensive with counter.
I watched, had 15% possession. 30 mins in he watched as well.

At 1-1 I switched to attacking, at 2-1 i went hard defensive, with counter.
Any questions, feel free to ask!
Cheers!
i used 3-4-1-2 and won 5-0 vs a team stronger than me. I was away.
two days later i played him again with same tactics. He won.
Randomness galore!
it doesnt care how to play. T11 Script decides the result. pure lucky dices...

First hello to y ou all.
I have a pb called 4-42 classic.
Got to play against a a very good friend and mate for pos.1
he has 32 avg and i have 26 avg. I wanted to ask if u could help me get a tactic which will beat his 442 all i need is a 1-0.
Not more not less. How can i outsmart him?
am an adept 3-1-4-1-1 player always worked for me except for 442. they are my nightmare. since i found your forum i thought may be u could help me out.
45i V not my thing lost 3-0 and 4-2 against my buddy.
will be very happy if u help me.
mat is for tomorrow at noon.
thanks in advance.
i would also like some grafiks to better understand the formation be it with blue or red arrows.
Problem with 4-4-2 is its versatility, which is also its weakness: there are many ways to set up a 4-4-2 without really messing it up, but also no real focus in the formation. Do they attack down the flanks? Mixed? Short, mixed, long passes? It also works with both a defensive and offensive tactic. That makes it difficult to find one single good counter formation. Not even counting individual strengths of weaknesses. It's why I always prepare for trouble when even a weak abandoned bot team has 4-4-2.
I prepare my squad in such a way that I can make a narrow diamond, a 4-4-2 myself and a V
i would say go for
4-2-2-2
St St
AmL AmR
mc - mc
dl -dc -dc - dr
gk
normal / throw flanks / own half / normal tackling / mixed pass / zone
I have hard time dealing with this 4-4-2 flat formation. In my lv 31 league, there are about 6 or 7 teams using it. I had a decent result using 3N-3W-3N-1 aka 3-6-1 formation.
4 5 1 v Work well for me against 4 4 2. Won 1-3 away today :)

Attachment 25894Leading my league, facing the second place team, we are equal is almost all aspect, he is slightly stronger in attack I am slightly strongly in defense, he plays 4-4-2 most of the time, but he is also a weird formation manager, a good one.
Attachment 25896
I'm mostly Narrow Diamond, he knows that, I will play a 3-5-1V against him. But will decide, watching what he is up to 3/4 minutes before play time, "Know your enemy, know yourself"~ Sun Tzu, Art of War. I have home and more than likely possession advantage, my entourage is formidable. Nice to have friends, (Note; Possession will not win you a match, but it doesn't hurt!).
Attachment 25895
As he is a strange formation player, I may just change to Narrow Diamond, by half time, if I feel uncomfortable. I will waste an AMC by doing that! I do not play players out of position, I'm pretty sure you will loose possession % when you do that. When you are even with the enemy, all the little things matters. Nothing guarantees a win, except luck, not even if you have 2/3 stars over them. We will see in 2 hours!
Well I'd push the time back twice into the next day and he still turned up! LOL... he is on to me, brought his own entourage, not bad and neutralized half of mines. Has only a 7% advantage at home, the worst I have ever had.
He started weird and ended even more weird with his formations, voodoo management, but he still lost. I went with a 4-5-1V and kept it all game. He was expecting a Diamond and the V may have thrown him off. I was lucky.
3-4-12 or 4-5-1 V-Style , , 3-2-2-2-1 Butterfly , 4-4-1-1 , 3-1(DMC)-2N(MC)-3W(AML/AMR/AMC)-1 ,
looks like the Luck was on yr side, i`ve lost my last games against 442classic with 451v, so i dont believe in 451v anymore....442 is the best
or
u can try 3-5-2 with aml/amr,
http://i58.tinypic.com/34zkj6s.jpg
This worked more than 4-5-1 V-S
...anyway, i'm in love with 4-5-1 V-S, so it's about your choice!
Used 3N-2(dml/dmr)-3N-2 - The home match is in 2 days, so any suggestions are welcome
Lost 1:2 away for CL match against much better quality team ( my team Q 36.2 & his team Q 39.4 ).
Against 4-4-2 I used 3N-2(dml/dmr)-3N-2. I can't used narrow diamond because his DCs,MCs and Sts are stronger and also 4-5-1V because its never works for me. With 4-5-1V I always lost against lower quality team . With 3n-2-3n-2 my order was :
team mentality : defensive
focus passing : down both flanks
Pressing style : Own half
Tackling style : Hard
Passing style : mixed
Marking style : Zonal
Force counterattacks : ON and No offside trap.
