   Depends on the opposition. If they play 2-3 ST or 1-2 ST and 2 AML/AMR I would go wide (or use 4 Defenders). If they play something like a narrow diamond or 4-1-3N-2, then 3 DC could do the job....

   Counter attack does not leave your defense wide open. Counter attack is not full out attack. Counter attack is quickly distributing the ball towards the opponent's end in the quickest possible way....

    My guess is he switches the formation when he gets into a game, thus fixing the illegal formation. But it will still show up in the match report as an illegal formation.
