Biography:
What types of IPAs are there? The evolution of IPAs.

There are hundreds and hundreds of varieties of hops, just as there are dozens and dozens of types of malt, just as there are countless different strains of yeast... in addition, water and the different procedures applied to the brewing process are crucial in the final result of a beer... all this means that there are as many types of IPA's as there are references on the market, which can be very different from one another.

The BJCP (Beer Judge Certification Program) is an institution based in the United States whose objective is to ensure homogeneity in the classification criteria and description of all beer styles, in addition to disseminating beer culture and accrediting the knowledge of those who pass their exams. BJCP is now the world reference and where the entire brewing sector turns to in order to solve doubts and inaccuracies.
Until very recently, the BJCP registered 3 major groups of IPAs: English IPAs, American IPAs and Double IPAs (also called Imperial IPAs).
However, there are so many countries with an emerging market and the craft movement is so powerful that new types of IPAs have been created, reversing the classics, exploring and experimenting. So much so that the BJCP has included a subgroup for all IPA beers that deviate from the standard, the Specialty IPA subgroup. This group is huge because market logic leads to all beers with more hops being labeled as IPAs. We are going to tell you about the most important ones.

The term Black IPA, India Pale Ale Black, is in itself contradictory since Pale Ale literally means 'pale ale', so an India Pale Ale cannot be black but... in this case the market has imposed itself. Some experts prefer to call them American Stout or Cascadian Dark Ale... Black IPAs have all the goodness of IPAs, i.e. the hop flavor, the bitterness, the fruit and flower flavors... and, in addition, all the goodness of stout beers, i.e. notes of coffee, chocolate, licorice...
One of the best representatives of dark IPAs in our country is Althaia Mascarat. Althaia Mascarat, very black, with notes of coffee and chocolate and American hops that provide aromas and flavors of citrus and tropical fruits. In addition, this beer is also a good example of Rye IPA, because rye has been used in its production.
