Today's league action saw Buffs FC host a visiting side from Rio - a break from the football-fest Carnival in their home city, perhaps?

Well, they did manage to get a break from footbal - because they didn't play any here today. The Buffs seem to bring out the worst in teams these days and Ricko FC chalked up 5 yellows, 2 of which resulted in second-half reds but thankfully no injuries. But Buffs are no strangers to meaty contests and are a bit cleverer too - Mackay somehow managed to remain unpunished despite his industrial-strength challenge sending one of the opposition straight to the ER Room. But, now to the more beautiful aspects to the game - what little there were.

Buffs set out to dominate the match and they did. In a brisk start to the match shots rained down on the visitors relentlessly. FK Specialist Paul McStay has borne the burden of making sides pay for their meatier challenges well in recent matches and in 19 minutes he struck a dead ball home to continue the trend. Although he didn't score with another FK in 32 minutes that rightfully went down as a great save from the away keeper. Yet another FK in 40 minutes saw McStay cross instead but Bremner ballooned it over. Baxter was having a party on the left as he tore apart the visiting team but no goals came of it. Johnstone on the other hand was being stymied on the right. So it was a bit of a shock that the second came when for once Johnstone hit the line, crossed and Baxter got on the end of it to head home. Into the break at 2-0.

The Buffs started the second half with a change, Mols came on for Law up front. The first of the sendings off came immediately after Mols first touch. Welcome to the game said the Brazilian defence! McStay's FK was blocked and play raged on. Ricko FC managed a counter attack in 53 minutes and were awarded a FK on the right after Mackays lunge, but the Buffs wall stood firm. Mols made a real difference when he went on a mazey run on the 59 minute mark and powered home to make it 3-0. In 69 minutes in came Kwon for a challenge.....and off went Kwon for a bath. As Baxter continued to take the mickey out of the opposition DR he clearly had enough of the wasted opprtunities in front of goal as he cut in, feigned a pass, and 'rounded the keeper to make it 4. Bremner was struggling a bit for pace so he came off in the 81st minute and Fletcher took the field. Baxter was tiring too but Buffs Mad left him on and ordered the medics to prepare the oxygen tent. The final 10 minutes saw the remaining booking for the visitors and a few long range attempts whistling past from the Buffs but 4-0 was the final score.

A good home win and injury free. Baxter collected Man of the Match without a word as he gasped for air. However, credit must go to the Ricko FC keeper - without his 6 saves it would have been much worse. 16 shots on target for the Buffs and 4 goals is not the best return but it will do.
