Think I've maybe been putting too much info on the ticker tape page and then running out of steam for Write-ups.
Catch Up (again).
Cup: Buffs FC come unstuck at home losing 3-1 in the 1st leg. The Buffs struggled and went behind to two goals in the first half - then elected to switch from an overly aggressive 4-3-1-2 to match up to their opponents with the same 4-1-3-2. Soon after the switch they were 3 down but still battling. Both GKs were busy and Souness pulled 1 back on 55 minutes. Buffs pressed hard and had a series of corners but nothing came of them. Fletcher was pushed forward OOP into a ND and chances came and went. Buffs Mad said "It'll be difficult to pull this one back against a clearly better quality side, particularly away from home, but we'll give it a good go."
Editor's Note: This Cup game was a strange one for me, it was clearly a bad start but overall I thought it went quite well, but the puzzling thing is, I usually feel afterwards that I kinda know how the opposition set up their orders but this one had me stuck. I'm almost certain they weren't counterattacking because the team made gains when I went from Normal to Attacking and it felt more end-to-end than that. Although 2 goals came from corners, the first goal and most of their attempts from open-play seemed to come from long range. Anyhoo, here's the piccies....

Champions League: Buffs FC maintained form with an 8-1 win against one of last seasons defeated CL QF teams. AML Jim Baxter hit a hat-trick and Paul McStay claimed 2 from FKs. McLeish, McStay, Baxter and Johnstone all rated 9.
Formations were Buffs 4-5-1V against Opponent's 4-1-2-1-2ND.
Although Buffs scored a few they were pretty sluggish in the first half and squandered a lot of chances with goals in 4 and 33 minutes. Two more were added shortly after the restart. A breakaway goal for the hosts seemed to fire up the Buffs with 4 goals in the last 30 mins as well as two stunning saves for the opposition keeper. Buffs Mad seemed to ignore this when he said "While there were good performances all over the park, Baxter deserves particular praise - he burned through 8% more condition than anyone else in the team."
