September 11 Match Report - Cup Quarter-finals, 2nd leg
Aurora Allstars 2 - 0 Sporting FC (3-0 agg)

After a very tense 1-0 away win in the first leg of this tie, a tightly-fought rematch was always to be expected. Despite putting on an enormous amount of early pressure, the Allstars' attacking force were unable to break through the mainly 5-6* defensive line on the Sporting FC side. Neither team was able to secure a meaningful breakthrough in the first half, although the run of play was definitely in the Allstars' favour, with 9 solid chances to Sporting FC's 4.

The second half saw more activity, with substitutions to 2 of the Allstars' own defensive line, in an attempt to stave off the growing threat from counterattacks. A fine long range shot from Huitron put the Allstars 2-0 up on aggregate, shortly after which the Allstars' manager was called away from the pitch on urgent family business. Although it was a pleasure to see that we had confirmed our win between then and the end of the match with another effort from our star player, Rocha, there was one bad note to the game - the injury of the newly-arrived Dundarogolu, who will now be out of action for the next few matches.

With Sporting FC defeated, we are now the highest quality team left in this season's cup, so hopes are high among the fans for another trophy to be added to the cabinet!
