What arrows and tactics did you use that time? You are talking about the butterfly, but that's one of my less used 3-2-2-2-1s. I prefer the WM and rocket ship formations, wide in defence and AMs, or just wide in defence. The butterfly's only weakness in defence is the double marking of the central MC, while every other attacking position is at least triple marked. Both of my formations will fix the problem.
He has a fair few scouts, so I would play defensive counter attacking football, blue arrows on DMs and Ms, red arrows on AMs. Defensive mentality, own half pressure, hard tackling, long passes, zonal marking. Force counter attacks and no offside traps. Focus passing would depend on your formation.
