I was at the top of my server, and 2 months ago, at lvl 7, landing in a league with 4+ token buyers, i decided to bank it to get 5* players on the list. I sold all my stars at the beginning of the season, and of course lost most of my games.
Now my team is back, I had a lot of cash, 120 tokens, about 100 red packs and 120 greens, upgraded the stadium regularly.
And things are going well: no token buyer in league, 6 wins in a row in league and 4 wins and (currently) one away draw in cup, a team averaging 4-5 stars in my top eleven and a lot of 1-2 star players for friendlies. I didnt even spend many of the tokens since the transfer list is so abundant. I might get a scout or two at the start of next season, but right now it isnt really necessary, Im just checking transfer list for promising young players now and then.
I think, as a non-buyer, this might be my strategy: if things are going bad, stack up resources, bank it, and come back stronger one or two seasons later. I will progress slower, but be able to nab a trophy or two every other season. Right now I dont have to worry about injuries, I had 4 already but got enough reds to compensate easily, plus in a weak league with no CL running, I dont have to insta-heal players.
The game is much more enjoyable this way, trying to compete with token buyers, farming offers, and having to be online for matches just wasnt enjoyable anymore for me. My team is healthy, it will progress, and I dont need to come out at the top all the time. Banking doesnt really hurt since you cant go into a lower league, you just miss out CL money. With a comparably big stadium and fanbase, tickets and merchandise bring more and more cash, and in banked seasons tokens come in automatically.
