Free U21 Players

I've decided to I'd only sign the Token U21 player if he's 24T, fits into my 1st 11 in my usual formation AND if there isn't a comparable 5* 18yo in the market at the time.

This essentially limits my U21 to the free 2-3* free youth player.
I know the rule of thumb is to sell these or keep the as a reserve at best, but has anyone ever managed to train up one or several of these to become a deserving 1st teamer or at least a good squad player?

One other thing, my U21 players will be produced 7 days into the next season, and Academy upgrades say it sppeds up the time to produce the next 2. So, say in 3-4 seasons time they become available right at the beginning of the season, would it then be unwise to do any further upgrade that would produce a youth player at the end of the season and thus a player thats comparably 1* lower?

To your first Q, the free youth is a horribly slow trainer, slower than even 26 yo players. Never signed the T one so don't know.
The second Q someone else might be able to answer better but how u know thast if u upgrade the academy, it resets to about 18-28 days for the next player depending on your level.

Yeah, I've just noticed with 2 more days to go til the end of the season, my free youth hasn't eve reached +1Q yet lol... but my other youth was 24T
My brother on the other hand got a 15T youth and his Q10 player is slightly better than mine, valued at 380k compared to mine at 47k lol... his one is now Q12 with light training and playing as squad player. Light Training being JUST enough training and friendly matches so that he'll be 99% fit for the next day's match, using no boosters.

sign non token ones and normal train for season and then sell on first day of new season as that`s when the madness happens

Or use boosters or training him until he's 30% condition and not even playing him in matches for example?

Do you play them in matches if you have more than one competition match in a day?

I put my crappy free youth with high intensity and did some stretching, he only got +10 skills progression compared to my star player who got +15-20 on normal intensity lol

If anyone gets one valued so low, sack them straight away cos no one's gonna buy him lol
