Cup manipulation is not an advantage as it holds back your players quality for the previous season. So unless you intend on missing promotion then that's the only "advantage". On top of that, it doesn't even guarantee you an easy cup because other players would probably be doing the same

I never go more than 4 days without assigning skill points. I see no advantage in keeping them.

I assign them as instantly as I get them.

Depends on what you're trying to accomplish. Only reason to save them is Cup manipulation or countering a token buyer.
