Level of league goes wrong

I played in a higher level league last season (19 instead of 18). It made me the lowest quality team in it. Not surprisingly, I finished 10th. However, the benefit of that was that none of my players lost stars for this campaign and I'm back in my proper level 18 league. Another bonus was that as I'd saved quite a lot of tokens, the day before the season ended, I bought 4 players from the scout list, who were 7* quality. Therefore now, I'm in a lower league, nearly half my squad are 6* or better.

By the way, in the 20 seasons that I've been playing, I've been in a higher level league 6 times.
