What happens when bidding on player with full squad

What happens if you win a player on the transfer page if you already have a full squad (22 players)

The player will be in your team list for 7 days but has not signed a contract yet...
He cannot play or train until you sell/fire another player and sign a contract with him...
After seven days he will automatically return to the transfer market I think...
