I let my contracts expire at the end of the season and resign when the new season begins (saves money).
But, I only had 13 players under contract when the new season began, so I got a free old retiring player.
Won a few players in auction, didn't need the old guy, so I sacked him (which was free).
And that earned me the achievement.
