Question about youth academy

Hello,
what happens in the case I get 2 new youngsters from my youth academy when I already have 22 players in the squad? I know I have to sell/release someone to sign a youngster, but will they appear first or not?
Can I wait until they are generated, see their positions, and after that release my old player to make space for the youngster to sign? Or do I need to release old players first?

They'll be added onto the existing list of players as unsigned players. Then you can do what you want within the 7 days.

You can wait and not release anyone untill they appear but after that you have 7 days to make space in the squad if you want to sign them. After 7 days if not signed they'll disappear.

My goal for my squad:

To have 21 signed 5* and 4* players that I can play in my competitive games and 1 2* or 3* player that I signed from my youth academy or the free agent list.

This way, whenever a new youth arrives or a FA is won at auction, he replaces the previous youth player or free agent occupying the 22nd spot on my squad. They rarely play a competitive game, but are used in every friendly I play.
