Player retiring immediately after i bought him!

Alright, I decided to buy a low rated 33 year old 3 star player with the playmaker ability to lower the overall rating of my team so i can get an easier cup draw, I have won the league twice in a row and the champions league but the cup seems to be harder, Anyway.... On topic, I bought this player today one game before the end of the season and to my surprise he decides to retire immediately, I am kinda upset because i wasted 2 tokens on him and i am not even sure even if lowering your rating works, Now i have to buy another 3 or 4 low rated players to complete my goal, Means wasting at least 5 tokens. A question, Why do players retire so early in top eleven? In real life 33 is the minimum.

Your 14 best players decide your cup draw, not your whole team. Also was that player a free agent? Usually free agents that old were sacked because they were retiring. So avoid 32-34 year olds in the future unless you need immediate help at a position

save skill point`s from start of season and add at start of new season or just tank

I just got a nearly 6 star 27 year old for 3 tokens, It evens out
