    OK... what did I do wrong here?

    So this is a CL game against a weaker, apparently abandoned team...

    I tried to rest a few starters... can't afford to buy rests all the time...

    And this is what happened...

    My DC got injured JUST as I was finishing my last sub... trying to turn
    the game.... most of my squad performed poorly... only 7s at best....
    too many 6s and at least one 5....

    Pretty much same situation in next game in a few hours...

    What can I do differently?

    And yes thats true, you need at least 3 defenders for a normal ball possession.

    Again 4-4-2 I use 4-5-1V or 4-3-2-1 (Attacking, Down both flanks, whole pitch, short passing, zonal and Offside trap)
    If you play a formation close to illegal like 3 defenders always keep one sub free to nearly end of match! (Also with single wings like in 4-3-3 or else).

    4-5-1 V isn't as effective as the butterfly against the 4-4-2 classic

    Well my narrow diamond worked offensively.... 4 goals.... for a 4-2 win...

    My defense has become porous.... and my GK hasn't been living up... so I brought
    in my back up... little better rating, but much older.... he posted a 6 today....

    Anyway.... at least the squad is back on the winning track.... hope they can keep
    it up...

    I'm not sure the formation was illegal. Did you watch the match? How was possession after the 60th minute?

    I hate this, you can play a league game against a well run team and get a 6-0 or better, then next game with same line up and formation against a team with a ST in goal, no GK on pitch and maybe 1 player in right position and struggle to get a 1-0. Last season I played a team of DMC's & MC's only in all 11 positions and won 1-0, then won title after beating 2nd place 5-0
