Atm it seems to be demanding that 2 of your midfielders be in the central positions (MC, DMC, AMC). And it does seem to be an error rather than a change - and I'm suspicious about a possible link to the new oop penalty stuff but only because its a recent change.

Maybe you got a red card for youre St ? I dont know i see now only 2 yellow it also can be you got a injured striker, but 4-1-4-1 is not illegal formations

You DONT need the 3 MC . just played 1 game with my 2 teams , one WITh 2 mc one with 3 mc , didnt go into 80/20 mode
