Well let's say that Shadow Striker does not affect the player, this I could believe, but training a SA and the player gets worse, sorry but I think this is just plain stupid....
Dudes you need to ask one simple question, Is the 40 skill points you need to get on worth the wait for it? I found by the time I trained a SA its nearly half to two thirds of the season gone and so as soon as next season comes the player loses a star and in all honesty the star becomes void because a good higher star no SA player is as good if not better than the one have trained! so in my opinion its a 100% NO.
I haven't trained nor SA neither new position, but if I decide one day, I'd rather train new position than SA. That is even better if your player has already 2 positions (imagine DC/DMC + MC or AMC/ST + MC)
Its just a choice.
While your asking "Is the SA worth it?" you could also be asking "Is the alternative, the Q, worth it?" I see a lot of people 'evaluating' SA but where's the "I added 40 points to Q and here's the stats difference."
Then it is question of form. If your player is in good form, add SP to increase Q. If he is not in form, maybe you can "help" him by training SA. Afaik, corner specialist ST/AM is always good combination in my team, I had a lot of these players and every was in great form, assists from corners like mad :D
