Has there been a change to the game or have i just signed a team of flops?

Ok so i am now in season 9, and it's suddenly went all wrong!
I won my first 7 leagues and narrowly missed out last season, though i put that down to my team being old and under-starred. I signed most of my old team in season 3/4 as scouts and they did me proud also taking home 2 champions league titles and 1 cup, 1 treble included.
I felt it was time to replace my old squad as they were all around 30 years old and would be down to 2/3 stars this season, and after struggling last season i decided they were to go.
I now have a new squad of 20 players (2 from old squad survived the cut) They are a mix of 6 and 5 stars with a few close to 7 stars. Many are scouts, almost all have special abilities, and a few have their main training section raised much higher than the other 2 sections (these type players have been awesome for me in the past)

Anyway i am now sitting 11th in the league with only 1 win despite having the highest average rating by far, am out of the cup already even though i'm in the same cup level i was the past 2 seasons where i managed last 16, and champions league group looks like being very tight between all 4 teams.

Am using my same approach, i always have but my team is struggling badly, thought maybe it was because my new team need time to gel but the teams beating me seem to have bought their teams at start of the season too, the have no special abilities and are rated way lower yet are comfortably beating me.

I change my formation to suit each opponent and make changes during the matches if things are going bad... a lot of the teams beating me don't even turn up yet still put 4 past me.

What's gone wrong???

hmmm, don't know much about your team but before 2 seasons I added 5-6 new players in my team and I started the league with 2W-1D-1L, but after that my team improved a lot and won the league.
Maybe it's time to change your formation because if you're playing with same people they study your style.
Try to begin the games with defense and after a while change it to attack or normal (examine number of shots)
Try to find counter formations for your opponents.
Check your players that have continuously rates of 5.

At some point even if you have the best squad in the league and i speak from experience you will get a dodgy season, if i remember right mine was level 9/10 and had best squad by a mile and some how finished 8th ??? without using illegal formation to tank the season

Same experiences. I'm in season 12 I won 9 leagues and 3 second places. During this season I lost the first 3 matches and I'm out of the cup. My best player is a dribbler with 7 stars and he is constantly performing 4 or 5. I put him in the bench for 2 games and last time I won 4 1 and he performed 8. Try to see who is playng bad and replace him with players with less stars but better performances

I wouldn't sell a 5* player and keeping a 3* player unless he's hitting continuously 4-5.

I don't think your results are caused by lack of player's experience or bad formation/tactics. I won cup and CL with avg. 20 years old squad. Instead i think main problem is form. Always check form of your players. It sometimes happens that when you have 1-2 players in bad form, whole team performs bad. Form is very important. If your best player (according to quallity) plays in bad form, keep him out of 1st team, bench him or use agaist weaker opponents, try to increase his morale and change position (if he can play on more fields than one). If his bad form continues, sell him.
Suggestion: although form is main reason, check your tactics too. I would suggest to avoid hard attacking or defending as basic setup and don't use too much red arrows.

I face the same problem too and i think that is a troll result.My team average quality is 5 stars and I only manage to win 1 of my first 11 games and I already concede 13 goals ( my team never concede more than 20 goals in every league level and never face a 10 game run without win) I tried to change formation and drop players. The result is my team won every friendly match and lose every domestic matches. My opinion is quit game for a month then come back after the troll is done. I done this last time nordeus troll me, and won the league title for the second season when i came back.

I had a bad season last time and finished 8th after winning 10 out of 12 Leagues. Revamped my squad and had a not too bad a start with 3 wins and 1 loss to date. I vary formations to counter opponents instead of just relying on my 4-4-2 which had always brought success. I agree with most comments above. Sell regular under-performers, try different formations and tactics in friendlies. Study your opponents before each game and of course ensure your squad is on maximum boosters where possible. I have found that varying win bonuses seems to help too. I still don't know if that is a factor however. We all have at least one terrible season so maybe this one is yours. Perhaps this would be a good one for you to tank.

So i managed a draw in today's league game, still in 11th place lol.

Thanks for all the advice guys, most of it i already do like always changing formations to suit opponents and also have a backup formation in mind in-case i need it, usually only put wingers and strikers on red arrows or just strikers, my starting eleven almost always start every game with full or close to full morale and condition, usually begin games on normal mentality and take it from there depending on how the games are going. Mostly use mixed passing, mixed focus, hard tackling, own half and zonal marking, and force counters too

As for poor form, i only seem to have one player with obvious poor form, he is a 6 star scout MC with playmaker ability but he always gets 5's, except for the one time he managed a goal and he got a 4 lol. His morale and condition are kept full but to no avail. He has been on the bench now for the last 3 days. Is it possible this one players presence is bringing down my squad?? Didn't want to sell him as he is a scout and is named Ben Kenobi lol but if he is the problem then he's gone!!

Between the end of last season and now my team 's rating has increased by 15 stars yet am sure my old squad would be doing a better job than this lot. Oh well just have to battle on and hope things improve, or maybe this just really is my time for a dodgy season.
