Is there an auction etiquette or is it just a free for all?

I was in a action for a particular player I was flush with tokens so I did not mind a bidding war (versatile young player was ideal for squad).
It went to action 20. Tit for tat with 2 seconds remaining
I was going to concede defeat.
So I sent him a friend request.
However then I instinctively bid another token.
    I won.
I think the freind request may have distracted him or am I imagining it?

I normally send a person a friend request if the auction was "fought well" like in a bidding war. Or if the other person gazumped me at the last second with a token!
I figure players like this are proper active managers and will be more inclined to send boosters/skill points.

By the way the friend request was not accepted in the auction I mentioned above!

No holds barred! Tried n tested is to bid very early for a few rounds, so your opponent qualifies as leader when he bids second, then dont bid early. If your opponents cheap he will want to save a token, you then try bid with 1 sec to go n steal.

Mostly i try n avoid bidding wars though

That's how I picked up my DC/DR Garcia - 5*, AQ129 - first thing in morning UK time. I bid with about 5 mins left, no other bidders until a 'Far Eastern' bidder sniped with 2 seconds left. Right I'll have 'ee you b*gg*r, I said. Waited until the very last second of the next round before twitching my finger on the left mouse button. A little pause, then it said I'd won...
Any formation or tactics advice given is based purely on experience with my teams...
