I'm training 2 guys the wall and playmaker. Wanna train a winger the SS (but can't get AML-ML and/or AMR-MR of my liking). Have a little interest in dribbler. Never had them, what do those do? What's your experience with them?

they use the search function to find threads that have already covered this topic
Dribbler is useless. One on one is useless. Playmaker imo is brilliant but not many people agree with me.
Useful ones are corner, playmaker, shadow striker, freekick, defensive wall, header, one on one.
There's a function, in every SA... then, depend if is well programmed... or, if another SA internally dominates, to create situations thata are more typical from another SA...
For example, not about SA's but today, I did a subs' in the match, as AMC I changed the ST that was there for another ST, and this worked in defense all match, saving me.
Talking of SA's, I had in my first seasons a good playmaker, called Edgar Davids, that scored a promide of 1 goal per match and with the same action, "suddenly shoot from far away" (it said : Davids suelta un trallazo" and then, goal in 90% chances. I think that this action is more typical of a shadow striker... but not sure, maybe too for playmakers is internally avaliable...
Then as ive said all is the same, a SA, give a advantadge in some actions, but for example is not so strange have 3 players corner specialists and see that the best man is another...
In this game, nothing is a guarantee, test is basic, and who dares sometimes, win.
I still haven't seen any significant effect of SA's, so I am very uncertain that they are more than a visual gimmick

Special Abilities in Top Eleven - Be a Football Manager
Take a look first at your team and at what you need more. I will tell you from my own experience latetly.
Long ago I have up on Play Makers because they played bad but recently I got one and since then I always keep one and they perform very well seems like.
Shadow striker is nice, I always have, at the moment I have 3 in my full suqad and 2 in the first eleven.
Defensive Wall is like a must and is working, trust me, you can see that better on live game (android or iOS).
If I will have to choose one from what you said I will go for the shadow striker but depends on what you need too.
To fully answer your answer here is what the abilities do
Freekicks-score & assist
Penalties-score penalties (useless)
Corners-assist from corners
Playmaker-create clearcut chances
One on one-composure in front of goal, beat offside trap (useless)
Dribbler-make forward runs with ball
Shadow striker-shoots from distance
Defensive wall-blocks freekicks
Header-stops crosses
One on one stopper-reduces chances of goals being countered
Penalty stopper-stops penalties
dribler, playmaker = yellow card every match or red card in important matches (especially MCs) and shadow striker if it is an AML AMR it will score many Goals .
Aha.. so my Mc Edgar davids that was Playmaker, really has attittude of Shadowstriker... for all the shoots from far away he scored...
That means every SA, is internally in every player, then, every SA, have some actions associated, and then, a % of effectiveness of teh actions related to the skills till a min. max. of %.... the visual SA, internally can be posible that is worst programmed that another, and this other despite is not related with the action of the visible SA, becomes the 1st choice and makes of the players what they are.
Here the theory illustrated about our confussions. That have sense really.
i'm still not convinced that playmaker is entirely offensive, pretty sure it just boosts creativity/passing stat and makes him more likely to make sound plays on and off the ball
If I understand correctly you're not far off.
I believe players have stats better than others. Like a natural DC may have extra point in tackling but not heading. Compare that to another the other might have better heading than tackling. So in terms of quality it is integrated into said players coding giving him a slight boost.
Now say that slightly better headerer has header ability, that would be a match made in heaven making that defender a very successful headerer. Now say the slightly better tackler had header ability. Some might not see a difference with the defender but it's there.
I know it sounds silly but think of it like FIFA Ultimate Team, Remy with Hunter card would make him SLIGHTLY faster but with ridiculous pace anyway he will be very fast. Now put a Shadow card on Mertesacker you wouldn't see a difference in pace because he is slow.
In short, your CM scored from distance a lot because he may have already been a good shooter with creativity, had he had shadow he'd be shooting a lot more often.
I have to state, this is just my opinion. I didn't make the game lol.
I have tested many time shadow strike vs not one on one vs none, they score there is no significant difference, so I still believe that it is just random. You can be lucky with an AMR or ST without SA, that will out perform the one with SA and vice versa.
Nordeus should add like a +5% chance probability or so to those mentioned SA.
I only have those coming from the box with SA's. Generally IMO MC with SA performs worse and scores less (not when dedicated for freekicks/penalties or so of course)
Corner and free kick specialists are the most important. They rest are rubbish. IMHO.
HoofDaddy... You can't say playmakers are offensive, since the SA is also available for defenders.
