What exactly is a scout?

I know they are 5*+ players and that you can buy them for 50 tokens + cash, but what are these players????

When you go to look at them they appear in your team's colours and it says they play for you. But they don't play for you.

Taking it in to the real world, what would they be? If it is supposed to be your team's scouts looking for talent in strange places, then why are they always so old and are already wearing your team's shirt? You would expect 18 year olds playing for a pub team. But 29 year olds?

Going further, if they are already in my team's shirt, why do I have to pay 50 tokens for them???????

Go to transferts, then scout ^^ it will cost you the regular price of the player, +50T

They are not in your team, they are available only for your team that's why they appear like that

Not sure why the name them scout but they are the best players your team (at any level) would be able to purchase. They do show in your jersey as they are free agents and it give you an idea what they would look like in your colors but you still need to purchase and pay 50 tokens. Depending on your goals, scouts could be good or not. If I were to do it all over again, I would just purchase young layers and power train them and they would become better than the scouts and cost less.

Cosmin's answer is the closest to something tangible, but if they were free agents, you wouldn't have to pay a transfer fee. A signing on fee, agent's commission, etc. yes, but a transfer fee for a player that does not actually play for anybody???????

Well Nondeus has a different approach which is called making money! yes they are free agents and the fees well, basically it`s like you would go for 50 rounds of betting in a player bidding. That`s why I told u you are better off purchasing a promising 18yo, power train him a lot and using you 50 tokens to purchase green patches to energize him back. I did that and it`s really worth it!
