    I won the Cup 4-0

Azulay my RB scored twice, Tebily and Reno come off the bench to round it up.
All that's left is Champions League and trying to finish the season without any losses

Day 26 - Palace Casuals Cup Final report.

It could have been worse: Opposition manager didn't turn up, but one of his friends did; thanks to the two managers - of teams beaten by the other finalist on the way to the Final - who came to support; and no thanks to the Android App which allowed me to set a substitute for the player with a booking, then sent him off before the sub could be made, and then refused to allow me to make any other substitutions or formation changes ("there are unsaved changes")...

Any formation or tactics advice given is based purely on experience with my teams...

'Individual quality was the key factor' probably the only report you need to see.

Well done Talisman, I'd take it as an achievement to take on a team like that. If quality was equal there's no telling how the game would have gone.

    Orange Roughies win League, Cup.

Draw 6: Home League match, 2-2. Playing the 3rd place and the only higher rated team than us, we wanted to put on a good show. DL Akwaffo scored from the FK served by Monasterski, and AML Coronel doubled our lead after the break. We have not been very effective trying to protect leads, and the opposition was able to cut our lead, and then the eventual get an equalizer in the 86th minute, having thrown fresh reserves in and rearranged their lines. The finance chief announced that the drinks were on him, as he did not have to part with the $0.8M win bonus after all. Despite the second place team winning their match, our lead of 7 points became insurmountable over the two remaining games, and Champagne was uncorked.

Win 42: Cup Finals, 4-2. Our finals opponent was a dark horse, whose low rating did not match their impressive performance in the previous rounds. They were coming off a 6-1 away drubbing of our League rival, whom we had just tied and who outrates both us and our opponent. They had similarly defeated 6-1 their QF opponents, also away. And they had a 7-1 away win in their 1/8F matchup. The manager joked it was good thing there is no "home" leg of the cup finals, or we would be in trouble. They play a rarely seen and apparently lethal 3N-5-1-1 formation, sometimes switching to a more traditional 3-5-2. Having consulted the specialists, we went with a true and tried 4-5-1-V. The best pre-game news was that their main threat, an ML, having knocked in 5 in the previous outing, managed to grab a YC towards the end and was having to sit out the Finals. When the big game started, the opposition jumped out to an early leaad when they scored from a CK, causing the manager to grumble that the set pieces were going to be our downfall, as we don't convert many, while most goals against us are scored from CK and FK. We stuck with our attacking mentality and high pressure were able to respond with three rapid-fire goals before the break. ST Monasterski scored, as did AMR Willemse, the veteran, and Brazilian ex-kid wonder MC Pinheiro, who had quietly gained his 7th star the day before and became our first ever world class player, all on the strength of his natural talent and regular training. Best news of all was that Pinheiro scored from a CK by MC Piedade who had long trained for this set piece and considers himself somewhat of a specialist, even if few of his deliveries get converted. Playing with the lead made us rethink our orders and we went with man-to-man defence and gave up high pressure to conserve energy. We also changed our mentality to defensive and made some substitutions to relieve tiring defenders and midfielders. For all our troubles we were rewarded with a goal against in the 80th minute, which cut our lead to a minimum. Pulling back AMs into a defensive 4-1-4-1 formation and going hard defensive, we decided we had enough energy to both play man-to-man and press high. When Piedade scored in the 85th minute from a precision pass by Monasterski, the game was finally made, bringing us the second Cup in nine seasons, and a second trophy this season.

On the other side, if the manager of Phoenix fc noticed that it was your team that trashed his team and knock him out of the Cup last season, he might be saying: 'time for revenge; I want to trash this team as much as possible, and if can't, I will make sure I break a few of his players' legs'. Hahaha .
