Day 28 - Palace Casuals League report and end-of-season summary.
Palace Casuals played at home to 4th place, and expected a tough match as the visitors were trying to cling on to a Champions League qualification spot. The critical action came in the few minutes either side of half-time, as Maarten Wiegman first volleyed home a corner from Angelo Musto and then converted a penalty after the same player had been hacked down in the box. The visitors pulled one back 10 minutes from time, but it was too little, too late. Worse news was to come for them as the loss had, in combination with other results, pushed them out of the Champions League slots.
End-of-season summary.
Palace Casuals started their 33rd season of Top Eleven at Level 29, and in the League, were one of the lower Quality teams, so initially, little was expected of them by the Management. It became clear after the first few matches, however, that some of the higher quality teams were not making the effort expected of them, and the Casuals quickly found themselves at the top of the League and embarking on a 14-match unbeaten run, as part of a record-breaking 22-match unbeaten run in all competitions. As the later part of the season went on, the teams below them were repeatedly taking points off each other, and a 2 point cushion at the mid-point of the season grew to an 18-point lead at the end of the season.
In the Cup, Casuals fought their way past several higher Level teams before coming up against a Goliath team in the Final, and ended Runner-up.
