I think some people don't know what playmaker and shadow striker ability do.

Playmaker-This ability helps in passing,marking and creativity.The player may get lot of yellow cards but he also perform at his best.Playmakers works best when they are supported by attacking mid-feilders.

Shadow striker-This ability helps your player to try shot from distance with accuracy,velocity or drift.The player may not take much time in taking shot or comming in right position for taking shot.This is nice ability for scoring goals.

Captain is cosmetic, a fun part of the game as trying to simulate real football.
As in real football the captain doesn't affect the performance of the team, same here.
