Also, for extending the contract of players you will have to pay unrealistic, so called one-time bonuses. One of the only reasons to extend the contract of a player is when you have invested a lot in this player, that is you used a lot of tokens or green packs to train him to a certain superior level.

Have a look at your squad details. Those that have only 1 year left on their contract are those that will be out of contract the next season. Those are the players that you will likely need to sell before the next season starts; else you will lose some significant amount of virtual money.

And if ever you have to extend a player's contract, then do it in the last season (that is, 1 year left). If you are sure you want to keep the player, then do it early in that season; else you can do it later in that season.
