Talking "The odds were in their favour"?

My first post ^^ excuse me if it is a silly question but it does appear confusing to me...

I just lost a league game for the first time (I'm lvl 2)... the good news for me is that I am in an unassailable position to win the league anyway (which will complete my treble yay!)

I do rely a lot on previous game stats and match report to improve my future games... for example, in a cup round where I lost the first tie by one goal, but my stats were dominant apart from the shot count and the report saying it came down to "individual quality", I simply changed to a more offensive approach and won the return tie by 6

Yet in this league game I lost by one goal and the only downside appeared to be the report saying "The odds were in their favour"...

Now that's a bizarrely general statement, odds just mean probability to me and to increase probability of winning is... basically anything in the game, so it doesn't really say anything does it?

To my credit, my team had a higher rating, all bonuses were 10%, full condition full morale. The end game stats were very even and no one in either team had an extraordinarily worse game than others (equally worst were both teams' keepers).

The only difference was it was a 3am Away Game my time and I couldn't manage the game, while the opponent pulled a horse cart of friends to support him, which pulled the possession stat to around parity (before this I had never had a game possession below 60%, even in games I lost or against higher rated opponents).

So what do these "odds" actually refer to? How many friends you pull or? Any other variables I may not be aware of? Or a euphemism for saying when the game is even the game engine just tosses a coin to decide the winner? How do I use this information to improve my game?

LOL i don't care the report.... when i lost, he either says "the opposite got very lucky" or " we were unlucky"
and then, he keeps something useless like XXX find a way to shake our net (really need him to mention....i see that in highlight) + he said 7.8 was a good rating for Graham Milner ---> he is my DC at good rating....while opposite player find a way to shake our net.... (and i lost 3:2 in the CUP final)
    His report is USELESS~

Thanks for the response... yea I see what you mean, my report card was pretty much the same as yours, except my first line says "The odds were in their favour" and second line says my players' passes were good... maybe odds are just another way of saying lucky?

Well I suppose then the game algorithm is probabilistic, so for example if the algorithm gives you 70% chance of winning given the variables of yours and your opponent's team, you are most likely to win but even if the algorithm gives you 99.9%, there is still a 0.01% chance you may lose. Fair enough I guess?

yes and at least this is a more fair explanation than "We could improve our training"

Thanks nikogiorgos, those threads are very helpful ^^

I see, so this is not like chess then, more like an online texas poker game (but one where you can buy certain cards) :roll eyes:

Given that 2 of the 3 major factors can't really be controlled (you can't control the dice roll or how much other players spend real money), then the best tactic for influencing the remaining major factor (manager presence) is hoping that your major opponents are from very different time zones to you and you spend a couple of tokens to change the fixture to unholy times for your opponents (like 3am) and hope they cannot attend (but then that probably doesn't work against naughty kids with no jobs who stay up till then )

welcome, and if you 're hanging around here, call me nik

I see, so this is not like chess then,
    hell NO !
Chess is a unique game. There is ability , no luck at all (but maybe good/bad day some times).
I also playing chess but in amateur lv.
Every other sport has a part of luck - small or big.
    * or maybe karma - remember today we 're gonna watch in CH.L. final Real vs Atletico (not Barca or Bayern or PSG )

more like an online texas poker game
more near to that (little more tactics and knowledge, little less luck for TE).
I don't play poker/casino games online but I did play poker with friends (when I was single).
Once in a month , we gathered in a house (with beers and chips ) and played with a very small amount of real money.
It needs good strategy skills beyond luck.

your major opponents are from very different time zones to you and you spend a couple of tokens to change the fixture to unholy times for your opponents (like 3am)
don't count to that much for a whole season.
    TE will find the way

The odds were in their favour
    They got lucky
    It wasn't our day
    We were unlucky

All this means that the match was fixed beforehand.
