So when you give players skill points is the chances of them going up a level completely random or is there a certain system that makes it clearer to see?
you can calculate the average (3 skills added) and estimate your caps with the personnal trainer
pure mathematics ... since a player quality is given by the average between 'defense 'attack and 'mental you should figure yourself that when a player gets 15 skill point it will rise 1 quality !
for ex a player quality 34 has to get the amount of defence + attack + mental equal with 102 ... if will have 101.8 means it`s quality is 33 and will need 1 skill point to rise up at 34..

Three skill areas as mentioned above by FC Barcelona...
Some examples with different points distribution on players.
39.8, 39.8, 39.8 = player needs 3 points to the next star
34.2, 43.6, 36.8 = player needs 27 points to the next star
38.0, 38.0, 38.0 = player needs 30 points to the next star
36.4, 39.2, 37.6 = player needs 38 points to the next star
33.8, 38.2, 33.0 = player needs 75 points to the next star (only just got 35 quality overall)
