Monday (day 9). Its a win, win day.
LEAGUE: (Match day 7).
Result: MISON FC 2-4 LONDON CITY
Goals: Hughes 15, Andersson 18, Rataj 22, Andersson 29, Zola 63, Lastra 87
M.o.M: Adam Zola
Our players seemed to regain their best form for this match, against the league leaders. The first half was full of goals, with Mark Hughes opening the scoring with a header from a Hector Morgada cross. Stig Andersson added a second, with a shot after a pass from Oleg Yashin, just 3 minutes later. Jakub Rataj quickly reduced our lead, but Andersson restored our two goal advantage, before the half-hour. It remained at 3-1 until the hour, when Adam Zola grabbed our fourth. But the scoring wasn't over, as home defender, Juan Lastra stabbed home a late consolation. The result did put us joint top for a while, but the other challengers had yet to play.
CHAMP LEAGUE: (Group match 4).
Result: DOINA FC 0-2 LONDON CITY
Goals: Morgada 42, Manning 79
M.o.M: Hector Morgada
With this early afternoon kick-off, the win meant we were the first team in our whole competition, to guarantee progress to the knock-out stages, with still two matches to play. Oleg Yashin set up Hector Morgada for the first goal, just before the halftime break. The second half was tense, but Morgada made things easier for us by crossing for Clayton Manning to head us into a two goal lead, with ten minutes to play. It could have been even better, but mis-firing striker, Yashin, put a penalty kick wide, three minutes into the second half.
TEAM TALK.
Today's league win was a boost for morale at the club. Heads were down yesterday after a dismal result against a bottom team, but this win at the leader's, was a real tonic. As regards the CL, it is nice to have already secured our place in the next round, despite not really playing well in the first 3 group matches. We now have 10 points, and the third placed team (today's opponents), have just 3, so they can't catch us now.
On the playing side of things, our pre-season signing, Oleg Yashin, still can't find the net. He is a "scout" striker, within 20 sp of becoming a "legend", but has yet to score a goal, after 12 appearances. All our other, lesser strikers have all contributed, even 3*, fourth choice, Teddy King. Yashin has so far been a real disappointment.
