Calculating the Ticket Price

I have read many a thread concerning ticket prices here, but it appears that no-one is yet to try calculating the optimal price for them. Thence, I decided to start constructing a formula that, when ready, could give the player a better idea about the attendance of the next match. Now, I am certainly not a mathematical genius, and the project is still very much in the beginning, but (to my own astonishment) the formula in its present form has already helped me in adjusting the ticket price with increased confidence.

Due to the fact that I do not know the factors that have an effect on the match attendances, I currently have several versions of the formula which all are used to make predictions.

The base value:

a*(b/c)*d*(e/f)

The fans/ticket price ratio:

a*(e/f)

Form excluded:

a*(b/c)*(e/f)

Teams excluded:

a*d*(e/f)

a = Competition (League = 1; Champions League = 1.1; Cup = 1.2)
b = Opponent Quality
c = Own Quality
d = Own Form
e = Fans
f = Ticket Price

The form is calculated with this formula:

([x+0.5y]/5)+0.5

x = the number of wins
y = the number of draws
PLEASE NOTE: If you have played less than five matches in the season, make sure to change the number "5" to the number of matches you have had so far.

These are the results so far (I will keep updating the table on a regular basis).

BOLD match attendance indicates a sold out stadium.

As you can see, the most recent match is the only one where the scores and the match attendance are in contradiction. I am suspecting that the reason is in how the ticket price's effect on the match attendance is calculated, but I have not yet done any testing regarding it.

If you wish to help, you can give me the information used in the table of your home matches for me to use (no need to tell me the match income) and tell me if you allow me to publish the data as a part of this table, or you can make suggestions how the formula could be improved.

Exactly, there was no updates to the original post, so this topic is a lost cause more than anything else.

It's a good idea but it's really easy to work out optimum price anyway. It just depends on your priorities:

Maximum possession for money
Just keep going up $1 a day until you don't get 5% bonus possession. Then go down $1 to get the 5% possession back. Keep like this until you feel it could go up.

Maximum money from attendance
Calculate ticket price (a) multiplied by attendance (b) to get the maximum ticket sales revenue (c):

a * b = c

Keep increasing ticket price by $1 as c increases until c starts going down, then reduce it by $1.


Personally I don't think we need complex formulae like the one the OP posted.

That being said, a lot of time and effort has gone into the post, so kudos to the OP, better than half of the 'omfg I lost a game screw nordeus etc.' drivel we see on here most of the time
