Central Defender Speed

Does the speed of centre backs matter? If a player is only trained in the CD position the speed stat is a grey skill and I believe these stats aren't important. I have another CD who is also a DMC and his speed skill is white. So the question is, does a central defender have to be trained in a second position to be fast enough to keep up with fast strikers or is there some game mechanic that means it doesn't matter?

It doesn't matter, grey is grey. This game is not like real life.
