I usually loose with def+counters. Opponent go crazy from corners when you choose defensive mentality It worked before new formation layout was introduced( and i would say it was really good orders) after that nothing works for me. Someone suggested me normal/attack-flanks-short-on-high but i get even worse results. For me what still works is normal/flanks/mixed/off/high or low but i still get pretty average results.
