    WTH? Am I missing something?

Did they make MORE changes to the NGE (Nordeus Game Engine) and forgot to send the memo?

I am looking at my opponent in the CL final and I looked at his games in the semis and he won both 1-0.
    Not strange at all.

    1) he played 4-4-2 classic (and won both!!)
    2) his opponent played 4-1-2-1-2 N.Diamond (Really???)
    3) both teams were equal in Quality at 29.
    4) the losing team watched both games and the winning team did not.
    5) almost even in terms of every stat: possession, corners, f.kicks, fouls...

Overall a very even matchup as indicated by the score.

I just find it hard to believe that the narrow diamond lost twice to 4-4-2 classic by 1-0 scores. I can see if the 4-4-2 team was of higher quality that this might happen more frequently, but I just find it odd that it would come down to tactics and instructions that would allow 4-4-2 to overcome the N.Diamond.

    Two questions:

    1) Did they tweak the NGE again to make 4-4-2 the stronger formation now?
    2) What formation would you choose to go up against this opponent if you were me?

I was thinking of using one of these 3 formations. Any opinions?

4-1-2-1-2 Attacking down the middle seems the logical option to me, seems to be the general accepted formation to counter 4-4-2.

I think low condition/morale may have affected the games you described, I'm level 1 with an average quality of about 21 and I lost 3-0 to a bloke with a team of average quality 12, playing 2 players out of position and an inferior formation, purely because I messed up my training schedule and had players at 60/70 condition. :')

I'm not sure, tbh. If it was me, I'd go for 4-1-4-1 if I'm weaker and 4-2-2-2 if I'm stronger. I saw a weaker side beat a team 0-3 away today using the 4-2-2-2 against a 4-4-2

You're miles better than him, why not just match up his formation and allow your better players to make the difference?

    Probably a wise option.

My giant killing in the cup this season was beating a Lvl 4 team playing 4-2N-2W-2 with a classic 4-4-2, using normal balance, mixed passing, normal tackling and own half pressing

I think tactics has a part to play as well as formation

Yeah, 4-2-2-2 is the new 3-4-1-2 by the looks of things. All the token buyers seem to be using it.

4-4-2 is too good nowadays. IRL, it's soooo predictable.
