You don't necessarily finish last, you just finish anywhere 8th-14th from a position where you look likely to be promoted by throwing a few games on purpose to save on tokens and develop your team. Not a bad idea for non-token buyers with poor quality teams.

The downside to tanking - No CL to play in next season, so less competitive fixtures, but you probably would not of won it anyways.
